Go Seme Border area for Lagos. Buses from Mile 2, Festac or Badagry dey go Cotonou direct.

Real Price for 2026:

- GIGM: ₦86k one way

- Cross Country: ₦95k one way

- Standard buses generally: ₦70k - ₦114k. one way

If you enter small Sienna / shared car for Seme, e fit be ₦35k - ₦50k, but e go stop stop and e no too comfortable.

Time: 3 to 6 hours. from Lagos to Cotonou, depending on border clearance. If you go early morning like 6am, e go faster.

My Advice: Enter bus wey dey go Cotonou direct, no enter the ones wey go stop you for Seme and tell you to find another bus. Direct bus dey less wahala.

3. The Full ₦350k Breakdown

- Transport Lagos to Cotonou return (big bus): ₦170k

- Hotel for 2 nights (Budget hotel for Cotonou): ₦70k — ₦35k per night, clean room with AC and WiFi dey. Budget hotels dey start from about $13-$20 per night.

- Transport inside Cotonou (Zemidjan / Taxi): ₦25k

5. Wetin To Do For Cotonou (No Spend Plenty)

1.  Fidjrosse Beach: Free to enter. Fine pass many Lagos beach. Grilled fish for beach na about 2,000 CFA. Carry your own drink, no buy expensive one for beach front.

2.  Dantokpa Market: Na one of the biggest market for West Africa. You fit buy cheap clothes, Ankara, and souvenirs. Price am well well before you pay.

3.  Cotonou Cathedral & Mosque:  Fine buildings, good for pictures.

4.  Eat Amiwo and Grilled Fish: Benin food cheap and sweet. Try Amiwo (red rice) with grilled fish. Street food like grilled fish with plantain dey around 1,500 CFA - 3,000 CFA.

6. Money Matter For Benin

Benin no dey use Naira. Dem dey use CFA Franc (XOF).

₦1k = About 415 CFA. (rate dey change daily, confirm before you go)

-Change your Naira to CFA for Seme Border or for Cotonou, no change for Lagos black market — dem go cheat you.

 Carry CFA cash. Benin na cash-dominant country. Card dey work for few upscale hotels for Cotonou only, most places na cash only. Your Nigerian ATM card fit no work there.

7.  3 Mistakes To Avoid
